Special Enrollment Period for Individuals

Your current coverage may be ending – the policy year may be at a close or you may have lost coverage through your employer are two examples.  This is not the end of the world, but rather an opportunity to consider other options.  The Affordable Care Act, ACA, allows for individuals that lose coverage through a variety of mechanisms, check out this link for more information.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

  • You do not qualify for a Special Enrollment Period just because you decided you no longer like your current insurance
  • Individual plans run on a calendar year – they reset on January 1st.
  • Open Enrollment will give you the opportunity to change your plan if you want to
  • Your expenses from your prior plan and your deductible do not affect your new plan

Losing your current coverage through a qualified event doesn’t have to be scary.  Please send us a message if you’d like to talk more.
